The choice of the right kimono for karate is essential for the maximum performance and comfort during training and competitions. It is not only a question of style, but above all of functionality. A well -chosen dress will allow you to focus on improving your abilities without unjustified discomfort. In this guide, you will discover how to choose the perfect Kimono Kimono to accompany you on Tatami and allow you to correctly perform the techniques and characteristic movements of this Japanese martial art.
The outfit during karate training in Romania is called Colocvial Kimono, which is not right, because Kimono is commonly associated with the traditional Japanese dress, worn daily or on special occasions. At international level, clothing for this martial art is called «Karate -i» (the Romanian equivalent «Karaga») or «GI», which in Japanese means a training outfit. The most complete name is «Karate Dogs» («Dō» – Path, «GI» – outfit). This underlines that the outfit accompanies the training on the path of development and perfection in karate.
GI Karate is generally uniform of white cotton, formed by:
- coat («attention», that is the upper uniform);
- Pants («zubon»),
- Belt, or «Obi», in the color corresponding to the given user.

The coat or a jacket that, when knotted, forms a form of V in the chest should be long enough to provide sufficient material under the belt to reduce the risk that bends enough and wide to guarantee freedom without restrictions on giving shots, returns or twists. The cuffs of the sleeves must end before or the level of the wrist. They shouldn’t cover the hand. Traditionally, Hane’s left side must be high so that the front part is stretched from the upper left corner to the lower right corner.
Pants
Due to the large number of strokes and diversity of positions, the cutting of karate pants must allow maximum leg work. They usually have a wider construction and a groin cable. Karate trousers should end right over the legs. Avoid the models that have cuffs that touch the ground to prevent prevention, for example. The most classic «Zubon» is equipped with a life cable for a precise game.
Belt
Or «Obi» must be long enough to be wrapped twice around life and, when tied, the ends must hang in front, in the lower part of the jacket. A belt too long and inappropriate will interfere with the correct execution of the techniques and can lead to injuries, such as eyes. In karate we have belts: white (for beginners), orange, blue, blue, yellow, green, brown (for advanced) and black (for masters).

Before choosing a certain GI, it is a good idea to see first what the other students of the Karate Club you want to participate and talk to the instructor to find out if there are specific requirements for Kimono. As for the most important parameters to be taken into consideration when choosing a gi of karate, they are:
- The material – Kimoni are generally made of light and pleasant cotton to touch or combined with elastic and resistant polyester. A good solution is represented by further reinforcements in the most sensitive areas to mechanical damage, including breakages or abrasions, such as double youths from sleeves and feet or strengthens between the legs;
- The thickness of the material and weight – The thickness of the fabric is exposed to the weight of the kimono, which is usually between 6 and 14 ounces (170-400 g). The weight influences the duration and resistance of clothes, but also its weight. For children, models are recommended with a weight of 6-8 ounces and for beginners (young and adults), for example 10-12 ounces;
- The variation of karate – Depending on the style of karate, for example a gi of Karate Kyokushin with long sleeves of ¾ and trousers with basket and legs that end behind the ankle or a kimono of kumiteWhich is easy and has a light cut, which leaves a great freedom of movements.
When choosing the right karate costume, the manufacturer must also be considered. Opt for respected brands such as: Adidas, play on the ground OR Mantle, in which they trust other karate practitioners.
Choose the appropriate size of
Kimon
to karate or
It is important to guarantee comfort and freedom of movement during training and competitions. An important factor is your height. The kimono must be long enough to cover your whole body, but you don’t have to interfere with your movements. Measures the chest at the largest point. Make sure the kimono is wide enough so that the fabric does not limit the movement. Therefore, measuring the circumference of life to determine which size of the pants will adapt to you better. They should not be too wide, nor too tight around life, so that they do not fall or return or cause discomfort due to the excessive abdominal pressure. Compare your body measurements with the product size table you have chosen. It should be noted that the dimensions may vary according to the brand and the Kimono model. It is worth remembering that cotton can decrease with frequent washing, so it is advisable to choose a kimono with a larger size (5-10 cm) than your measures indicate. In addition, Kimonos can have different cuts, for example: traditional or thin fit. Choose the cut that best suits your style and preferences.

When you combine kimono karate, make sure the outfit is quite comfortable to move freely in different positions. For example, when you hit the foot, a well -regulated trousers should not cause restrictions in the thigh area or in the inguinal area. Instead, a well -adjusted coat does not run or will limit the movement.
If you are a beginner or a doubt about choosing the size, ask for the advice of your karate instructor. You can also consult experts from Sportano.ro.
In order for Kimono Karate Kimono to be useful for you, it is important to wash it, dry it and keep it correctly. It is important to wash your Karate-Gi as soon as possible after an intense training session. Avoid leaving the costume rolled and wet in the bag to prevent the deformation or appearance of unpleasant odors. Wash your kimono according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Usually it is recommended to turn the GI on the back and wash it in cold or hot water (at 30-40 degrees Celsius). This will help prevent reduction. If possible, use an organic or easy cleaning detergent. Avoid bleach, vinegar or baking soda to prevent color loss. Dry in an airy place. It does not dry it in the drying machine, because the fabric can contract and deform and lose its resistance. Store the already suspended in a dry place to reduce the risk of ironing. When you prepare your kimono training, try to bend it along the seams or to perform it gently.
