Another promising final will be between compatriots Shima Alesaadi and Hananeh Salehi Laleh Marzi, both Iranians, in the women’s Kumite +68kg. Alesadi beat Italy’s Linda Stasi, while her teammate stunned Turkey’s Fatma Uygseu.

Hosts Turkey also have reason to celebrate as two of their athletes reached the final in the Men’s Kumite -75kg. Omer Faruk Yurur beat Mahdi Shahgol of Iran, while Eren Akkurt defeated Oleksandr Cherniaiev of Ukraine to reach his first international final.

The prevalence of Japanese athletes in the Kata categories continues in Konya and the women’s Kata final will be a competition between two Japanese women, Mirisa Ohuchi and Nodoka Yamada.

Another exciting final will be between the women’s teams of Italy and Kazakhstan, who will compete for the title in the Women’s Kumite -68kg. While Pamela Bodei secured her place in the final by beating Mayar Zeinelabdin of Egypt, Laura Alikul defeated Wiktori Grejner of Poland.

The first day of Karate 2023-Series Konya also saw other exciting finals, such as the clash between Sanad Sufyani of Saudi Arabia and Anes Bostandzic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Men’s Kumite +84kg, and the final between Turkey and Kuwait in the Men’s Team Kata.
