50 YEARS OF BUDOKAN FLORIANOPOLIS Shotokan Karate in Santa Catarina began with master Shigeru Sogo, who arrived in Brazil from Japan in 1961. He settled in Santa Catarina in the 1970s and, in 1973, founded the Budokan Florianópolis. This year 2023, Budokan Florianópolis celebrates its fiftieth anniversary as a reference institution in the region. Sogo Sensei began teaching in Blumenau and later moved to Florianópolis, where he taught training at Clube 12 de Agosto. During this period he trained, among others, the masters Ademar Rulenski, Anísio Feitosa and Elias Andrade who became important figures of Karate Do Santa Catarina. Over the years, the Budokan Florianópolis has contributed significantly to the spread and growth of this Japanese martial art in the region, leaving a precious legacy after completing half a century of existence.

Today, in 2023, we are thrilled to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of this institution that has become a reference in the region.

To honor this special occasion, we are excited to declare an unforgettable event! On August 26, 2023, from 9:00 to 18:00, Budokan Florianópolis and JKA SC partner together to offer a remarkable technical course. This course will be certified by JKA Brasil and will be instructed by the renowned sensei Kazuo Nagamine, technical director of JKA Brasil.

And that’s not all! We are grateful to have the vital support of the Santa Catarina Military Police, who recognize the significance of Shotokan Karate as a means for building character and discipline in the community.

The venue for this special event will be at the PMSC Teaching Center, an appropriate and motivating place to enhance our skills and celebrate fifty years of commitment to Shotokan Karate.

Following the technical course, the 10th Budokan Championship will occur, featuring brown and black belts in kata and kumite. It will be a fantastic chance to show all the skills and passion that Shotokan Karate brings!

This is a moment not to miss as we learn from a true expert, improve our abilities and compete at a high standard, honoring the traditions of Karate and Budokan Florianópolis!
