50 YEARS OF THE BUDOKAN FLORIANOPOLIS – SHINZUI

50 YEARS OF BUDOKAN FLORIANOPOLIS Shotokan Karate in Santa Catarina began with master Shigeru Sogo, who arrived in Brazil from Japan in 1961. He settled in Santa Catarina in the 1970s and, in 1973, founded the Budokan Florianópolis. This year 2023, Budokan Florianópolis celebrates its fiftieth anniversary as a reference institution in the region. Sogo Sensei began teaching in Blumenau and later moved to Florianópolis, where he taught training at Clube 12 de Agosto. During this period he trained, among others, the masters Ademar Rulenski, Anísio Feitosa and Elias Andrade who became important figures of Karate Do Santa Catarina. Over the years, the Budokan Florianópolis has contributed significantly to the spread and growth of this Japanese martial art in the region, leaving a precious legacy after completing half a century of existence.

Today, in 2023, we are thrilled to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of this institution that has become a reference in the region.

To celebrate this special date, we are pleased to announce an unmissable commemorative event! On August 26, 2023, from 9:00 to 18:00, Budokan Florianópolis and JKA SC join forces to bring an unforgettable technical course. This course will be approved by JKA Brasil and will be taught by the famous sensei Kazuo Nagamine, technical director of JKA Brasil.

And it doesn’t end here! We are honored to have the essential support of the Santa Catarina Military Police, who see the importance of Shotokan Karate as a tool for building character and discipline in society.

The location of this special event will be at the PMSC Teaching Center, a suitable and inspiring space to improve our skills and celebrate half a century of dedication to Shotokan Karate.

After the technical course, the 10th Budokan Championship will take place, where brown and black belts will participate in kata and kumite. It will be a unique opportunity to demonstrate all the technique and passion that Shotokan Karate inspires!

This is an unmissable moment to learn from a true master, improve our skills and compete at a high level, honoring the legacy of Karate and Budokan Florianópolis!
