Can you really learn a contact sport by watching videos online?!

In our desire to be «in step with the times» we have become poor victims of so-called pompous barbarism Modern and we are caught in a vortex from which it is extremely difficult to escape. We are more virtual than real. We have become tributaries of an addiction we can no longer control. We are victims of our own arrogance, thinking most of the time that only what we do is good or difficult. We work aimlessly and without specific objectives, in a total chaos that has already become us lifestyle.

I have many examples around me of such people caught in the dizzying vortex of everyday life. I can’t keep up with their pace. They are always willing to burn stages, days, weeks, months, years just because they feel there is no other way. It always leaves me feeling like I’m on the run. I have good friends who tell me they couldn’t live without exercise, without fitness every day. And I didn’t understand how they still had time to go to the gym every day… So I asked them…»Ah, well, no… I haven’t been to the gym that often. Maybe I come once a week… But I do it at home… I watch the video in the app or on Youtube«they told me…

I saw one practicing at home, trying to copy some moves correctly. He made them mechanically. It seemed to him that it was good for them. What’s more: he was so convinced that he understood what he had to do and was performing the move correctly, that he would in no way accept the possibility of hurting himself even more by performing some moves incorrectly. How many more will there be like him, I wondered, a little worried for my friend. People who firmly believe that by watching a three-minute fitness segment on TV, they will be able to perform the moves like a pro?! Self-sufficiency is a serious disease, and television and thousands of online videos support it.

Since I started writing this diary, Facebook has shown me in my feed a series of videos in which we are «taught» how to defend ourselves in case of an attack on the street. The techniques seem simple, so no matter how inexperienced you are, you get the impression that it is simple and easy as hell to get rid of an attacker. If you watch some of these short videos (which instill the idea that no matter how strong and big the attacker is, you, as a living being, can handle him), you already start to hear some of his mimicry. Bruce Lee on your face You think you can do the same, that it’s easy and simple. It’s a misleading feeling that only feeds your ego. But we all know that it can’t be as easy as it is shown in those videos. Yet many think they can learn a contact sport by watching videos posted online.

I could never learn from videos. Maybe I’m not experienced enough to notice all the details which are extremely important if you really want to learn a technique. I tried practicing at home using the videos as a model. I stopped every 10 seconds to look again: «so… how is it here?! but how is it? but how does it move?! wait… how did it go?!«. 🙂

I have always preferred to pay attention to training, observe as many details as possible, listen to the explanations generously offered by the Sensei… The truth is that I like to listen. I learned a lot just by listening carefully. Unfortunately, many people hear but never truly listen. Obviously it is not possible to learn a contact sport just by listening to the theory. Not! You need to practice, work on training with different partners, etc. Sensei always told us this The training you do yourself is also extremely importantwhen you’re not at the gym. And I train daily. But never after the videos. Not! I prefer to try to remember the sensations I felt during training and follow as much as possible the detailed explanations I received in the gym.

I could never learn the idea of from a video timingFor example. You can’t help but smell life in that second that you have won that allows you to fight back and get out of a difficult situation.

I have always watched videos in which martial arts techniques are presented as promotional vehicles. If you find them really interesting, go to the gym! Only there can you really learn something! Assuming you want it.
