Mini appeal for martial arts

I confess that initially I didn’t understand the motto Raiden Dojo. It made me think a little… Well, do we fight or don’t we fight?! Sure, I had heard in the past that martial arts is, in fact, a path of peace, not violence, but most of the time these are just nice words you say when you want to be profound. Not many people really understand its meaning. I began to understand better after participating in my first traditional martial arts training.

Traditional martial arts

it is both an exercise in introspection and physical fitness. In the deeply unbalanced world we live in, traditional martial arts practiced correctly help you find inner balance, control your emotions so you can maintain clarity in every situation.

Aggression can be any problem that affects our daily lives and an equally violent or aggressive response on our part is far from being the solution.

There will always be stronger opponents and various problems that can surpass our strengths. In such situations, traditional martial arts gives you a strategy tested and perfected for dozens of generationswhich ensures survival AND success with minimal effort.

The essence of this strategy is physical but also mental agility, the ability to understand, accept, deeply feel the act of aggression, the motivation of those behind the attack and, finally, the reality that surrounds us.

Traditional martial arts involve many internal states, ups and downs, self-discoveries (which sometimes make you ambitious, sometimes «bring you down»). But always, at the end of the training you realize that you have taken another step. One that you really need in your daily becoming. You feel like you’ve evolved a little more, that you know yourself a little better. You know you are in a process of change and you enjoy every step (small or big) you take.

Even though I’ve never been a big church goer, I sometimes catch myself talking about going to practice in an almost liturgical way. It may sound strange, but it’s almost a similar feeling to going to church. I think both «activities» have a religious foundation behind them: FAITH THAT YOU ARE WHERE YOU NEED TO BE.

We have an almost sick need to rationally understand reality and lived experiences, in order to be able to assimilate and accept them more easily. In traditional martial arts training you discover that there is meaning to things even when it is not palpable or not too obvious. Even when we are so blinded by our human need for security and certainty.

Sometimes I am overwhelmed by the “temptation” to give up. Nothing seems to be working for me, I feel like I’m not progressing as much as I would like. I can’t figure out exactly what keeps me going, what drives me to keep going, no matter what. Maybe it’s a kind of stoic will that I’m absolutely certain we all have, even if we don’t realize it and we repress it, we ignore it many times. Maybe it helps me that I don’t play a sport, that I don’t fight for medals.

In traditional martial arts training, performance is that moment when instead of taking a step back, you step up. No matter how much the road drags you down, you don’t give up and climb some more. In training, consistency is about discipline and consistency. While fireworks (specific to sports medals) are spectacular, they never last long. But self-discovery, personal evolution means overcoming physical and mental limits day after day.

Traditional martial arts give you a different perspective and empower you to create a better relationship with your inner self, ultimately helping you live in harmony.

Illnesses are nothing more than imbalances, aggressions aimed at ourselves from which we can protect ourselves. Within Raiden Dojo Bucharestwe have a study section of Chinese domestic subjects Taiji and Qigong where the focus is on therapy and prophylaxis, through breathing techniques and forms of energetic rebalancing.

The ideogram that designates the concept of «martial» in the East actually translates into preventing conflicts, preventing violence.
