Impressions after the practical seminar of Kenjutsu & iaijutsu «Calea Sabiei / Calea Samuraiului»

You know that I don't understand much about mathematics, but if I think about it, from Friday to today, when I write these lines, I have accumulated about 4-5 hours of sleep. The reasons are simple: the radio program, the Sanremo Festival, the Eurovision pre -selection, were many to do, to see and comment in writing. This morning, however, I did something that I will never do willingly and will not please anyone: I woke up before the clock of the phone. Also, I made coffee before the alarm wake up.

At 9.00 am I started towards the Judo room of the «Mircea Eliade» scientific high school where, from 10.00 am, the sword seminar should have started of which I have told you in these days. I was ready to take photos but to film. I brought with me and the video camera. I recently discovered that he has an interesting feature: you can connect the phone to take two different angles. To facilitate the work, I brought with me a small tripod on which to fix the phone. I tell you, it was the perfect plan! I arrived in the changing rooms and after changing myself I said it would be better to fix the phone on the stand.

Bracket. I omitted to tell you that since I have a sword and I play with her almost every day, I have made muscles. It is true that until today I didn't know exactly how strong I was. I close the parenthesis.

Buuun, I put the phone in the support and I start to hold it enthusiastically in the support. At a certain point I find myself with the support of the phone in one hand and the stands of the stand in the other. I look better and find that I broke the screw. Now, I don't know exactly what the screw was, but for lack of information and to feel good we will simply say that it was iron.

The phase for me is ugly because I was firmly convinced I had a good idea too … but you know I didn't give up. I thought: Well, don't I have two hands?! To use them, I say! Of course, he would have helped me if I had had at least two active neurons, but that's all, I had to deal with one. The good part is that it worked slightly to connect the two devices, and the result (i.e. filming) was not so terrible.

I have to tell you I like to go to the seminars. In such meetings you can breathe a special atmosphere. The advanced ones, wine and beginners come, are people of different ages and professions, who live in different cities, but which combines the passion for martial arts, for the Japanese sword. You find a lot of inspiration there. There is nothing ostentatious, nobody imposes a model (as happens on TV or in the press), but there is, you feel encouraged to continue, you know you are part of something beautiful. I could have stayed in a corner, to follow them training all day without getting bored. It is fascinating to see people who, out of passion, try to improve themselves, generously give their knowledge and do not look at you even if you are a beginner, and they also have the patience to explain to you when you are wrong. It is a fantastic thing that when he sets off, look left or right and find a guide asking or simply looking at your colleagues.

The relaxed and friendly atmosphere, the advice received from the senses, the parables mentioned, the simple fact of being part of a group of passionate and dedicated people, everything has the purpose of dissipating the fog, of removing a pebble from the brain. Slowly light. When you face people who have been training constantly for over 30-40 years, trying to improve their technique and being in continuous research, otherwise you understand the concept of patience.

And you understand something in these moments: What it means to be truly passionate about something! The real passion does not attenuate over time, quite the contrary. The continuous search feeds its «fire». At least that's what I see among my colleagues. Today, when someone asks you what passions you have, many are tempted to list some hobbies. The less they live/dedicate life to a passion. That's why I find it fascinating to find myself among these people.

Okay, I can't say that the techniques emerged today. But despite this, I came out from there richer and I know I am on the right path. And this is a great thing (especially for me because at this moment I am in the Great War with me).

PS Speaking of techniques … Saturday we reached two conclusions:

  1. It is clear that I have a guardian angel (or maybe it is an entire army because I don't think it does it).
  2. My Bokken hates me.

In short, what happened. Friday evening I thought I was taking my sword to work on Saturday with his training. I was working with the sword only at home, I never brought it into training, there I only had the Bokken. I changed my second second and left the sword at home. I don't even know why.

On Saturday, during training with the sword, I did a relatively simple exercise. A step forward followed by a sharp cut. When I had to step back, I changed my guard on the sword (the left hand and the right right passed). At the first attempt, when I had to change my guard, I was with my hands over my head and, my misfortune, I did not take the Bokken in time.

Guess where Bokken was promoted? Well, in my head, of course!

Now imagine how it would have been to work with the sword … remember what I said at the beginning of the text, right? It's hard, I made my muscles with her … now a cuckoo was missing !! And I would say cuckoo because I'm a great optimist!

Now you understand why I thought Bokken hated me, right? I mean, after he no longer wants to whistle (even though he whispered at a certain point while I was doing the cuts, I swear), will it happen to me now? I have to find a way to «reconcile» me with the Bokken, we cannot keep it thus indefinitely.
