I was contacted by the Quatre-Vents school, through the organization Québec en Forme, to teach Kung Fu to a group of fourth graders. I never imagined that this simple call would become the spark that would lead me, 20 years later, to teach hundreds of hours every year in dozens of schools throughout Estrie…
No, I didn’t teach Kung Fu, but I accepted the challenge: to teach Karate. An important challenge, because the school is not a dojo. I am not faced with students who have chosen to learn. They often have no uniforms or equipment and there is no graduation. So I had to adapt. I created a tailor-made program, focused on psychomotor skills and martial values. This program, which was supposed to be for 1 group, became several courses for the entire school, from kindergarten to 6And year and then in different schools, etc.
I had to reinvent my teaching, to make it more fun, and respond to the cognitive (knowing how to do), motor (knowing how to do) and psycho-affective (wanting to do) needs of young people. This approach has not only transformed my teaching in schools, but also in my dojo.
Today, after dozens of hours of training, thousands of hours of intervention and stars in the eyes of thousands of children, I have the immense privilege of helping to train young people who are better in mind, body and heart.
Thank you life!
